The Domestic And Industrial Uses Of Sulfamic Acid

Leave a message

Sulfamic acid, available in powder form, is a white crystalline solid that is stable and non-hygroscopic. It is classified as a strong inorganic acid and is produced commercially from urea and fuming sulfuric acid.

Application of sulfamic acid in descaling

Sulfamic acid is an ultra-efficient descaler used to clean a wide range of industrial equipment and household appliances. It can be used to clean boilers, heat exchangers, condensers, jackets and coils, remove toilet scale, remove excess cement slurry, weathering spots and other mineral deposits from tiles and more. It helps to remove hard water scale, protein deposits, beer and milk scale, light rust and patina. Its solutions are less corrosive to metals than other inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid.

How to use sulfamic acid for cleaning and descaling

For removing excess cement paste from tiles or dissolving weathered spots on walls, floors, etc.:

  • Prepare a solution by dissolving 80-100 grams of sulfamic acid powder per liter of warm water.
  • Apply the solution to the surface with a cloth or brush and let it work for a few minutes. If necessary, stir with the brush and rinse with water.
  • Please note: If used around colored cement paste, a weaker solution of approximately 2% (20 grams per liter of water) should be used to reduce the risk of color bleeding from the paste.

Sulfamic acid is safe for steel, iron, glass and wood equipment; use caution when cleaning copper, aluminum and galvanized metal surfaces. Cleaning can be done in a soak tank or by circulation. For surfaces, apply solution to the surface with a cloth or brush and allow it to act for a few minutes. If necessary, agitate with a brush and rinse thoroughly with water.

For boiler systems and cooling towers, recirculate with a 10% to 15% solution depending on how dirty the system is. Flush the system and fill with clean water before use. Determine the volume of water and mix sulfamic acid at a rate of 100 grams to 150 grams per liter of water. Corrosion inhibitors may need to be added to help protect mild steel, brass, copper and stainless steel from acid attack. Circulate the solution for several hours at room temperature or heat to a maximum of 60°C (for heavier cleaning) until the desired effect is achieved.

Application of sulfamic acid in paper and pulp industry

Processes using sulfamic acid during the chlorination and hydrochloric acid treatment stages reduce temperature-induced pulp degradation.

Application of sulfamic acid in dyes and pigments

Sulfamic acid removes excess nitrogen compounds used in diazotization reactions in the production of dyes and pigments and also removes nitrogen compounds from process water in wastewater. Removing nitrogen compounds is environmentally friendly.

Conclusion

Sulfamic acid is a safe and potent acid for descaling and acid cleaning. One of the most common uses of sulfamic acid is for descaling heating coils and heating vessels in food processing establishments because of its ability to quickly dissolve hard deposits without producing unpleasant odors or fumes. For this reason, sulfamic acid is considered the most popular, safest and preferred acid in several industries. If you need this product, welcome to contact us!
