What Are Swimming Pool and Spa Chemicals

swim-icon 1. Disinfectant

Disinfectants are the most important swimming pool chemicals that can effectively kill bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms in the water, thus ensuring that swimmers do not contract waterborne diseases. Common disinfectants are:

- Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC or NaDCC): It is a highly effective and stable chlorine disinfectant with good solubility. Moreover, as a chemical, SDIC disinfectant is not only safe, but also can be stored for a long time, and its validity period is more than two years under the right conditions.

- Trichloroisocyanuric Acid (TCCA): It is also a highly effective and excellent pool disinfectant. We sell TCCA disinfectants in all forms, including granules, powders and tablets.

- Calcium Hypochlorite (CHC): It is a common pool shock treatment chemical used in swimming pool maintenance and does not increase pool CYA concentration when used. Besides, we can also provide CHC tablets.

- Bromine Disinfectants: Although chlorine disinfectants are more familiar, bromine disinfectants also have strong bactericidal power and are less irritating to the skin and eyes, so they are often used in indoor swimming pools and spas. If you have a demand on bromine disinfectant, our Bromochlorodimethylhydantoin (BCDMH) with excellent performance is a good choice.

pH-icon 2. pH Balance Chemicals

The pH value of swimming pool water should be maintained between 7.2-7.8. Too high or too low pH levels will affect the disinfection effect in the water, and cause irritation to human skin and eyes. If your pool has an unbalanced pH problem, you can use pH Minus and pH Plus to adjust it.

It should be noted that after adjusting the pH level, be sure to adjust the total alkalinity to the normal range (60-180 ppm).

CYA-pool-stabilizer-icon 3. Cyanuric Acid

Cyanuric acid is a Pool Stabilizer and Conditioner that prevents chlorine from being broken down by sunlight, thereby prolonging the disinfection effect of chlorine. Both SDIC and TCCA are stabilized chlorine, so CYA is not added when used. CHC is unstabilized chlorine and CYA need to be added when used in outdoor pools.

flocculant-icon 4. Flocculant

The function of the pool flocculant is to condense the fine suspended particles in the water into large particles, which are easy to filter and remove. Common flocculants are Aluminum Sulphate, Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC), etc.

clarifier-icon 5. Clarifier

The clarifier can accelerate the precipitation of impurities in the water and make the water clear and transparent. And it is very convenient and does not require underwater vacuuming after use. The common clarifier we sell is Polydimethyldiallylammonium Chloride (PDADMAC), in addition, our newly developed Pool Gel and Blue Clear Clarifier can also greatly solve the pool clarification problem.

algicide-icon 6. Algaecide

Algaecide is also an important chemical in the swimming pool, which can kill algae in the water and prevent algae from multiplying. Our company has introduced various new kinds of algae-killing chemicals, including Super Algicide, Quarter Algicide, Blue Algicide, Strong Algicide and so on.

How to Store SDIC Disinfectant to Ensure Its Effectiveness

SDIC is an important chemical widely used in swimming pool disinfection and purification, which can keep the pool clean and clear. Usually, swimming pool managers will buy it in stages, and partially store some. Because of unique characteristics of chemicals, it's important to learn the right way to store them and the ideal conditions for storage. Thus, correctly storing SDIC chemicals to guarantee their efficacy is crucial.

Firstly, it's important to fully understand the chemistry of SDIC. SDIC is an organic compound, so it should be stored separately from other oxidants, reducing agents, ammonia/amines/ammonium, strong acids or bases so as to avoid accidental mixing when spilled.

Secondly, it's better to use original containers to store these chemicals. If you mind, then you need to choose a suitable storage container. SDIC chemicals should be kept in specific, dry, and clean containers. The container needs to be leak-proof and airtight, with a waterproof lid. This keeps moisture and other chemicals out of the container, ensuring the efficacy and purity of SDIC.

Thirdly, it's essential to control humidity and temperature when storing. High humidity can cause SDIC to absorb moisture, so it needs to be kept in a reasonably dry environment. At the same time, in order to maintain the available chlorine of SDIC disinfectants, it is also important to stay away from light. Long-term exposure to sunlight will not only form high temperatures, but also lead to oxidation and degradation of SDIC, thus affecting the stability of SDIC. Therefore, SDIC should be stored in a moderate temperature environment and avoid direct sunlight.

Additionally, be sure to ventilate. In long-term storage, chlorine disinfectants will more or less produce chlorine gas. Ventilation can remove these trace chlorine gas, which will not affect the user, and avoid to cause corrosion.

Finally, while using NaDCC disinfectants, there are a few things to keep in mind. Before using NaDCC, hands should be cleaned and the proper personal protection equipment should be put on, such as safety goggles and gloves. The container needs to be sealed and put back in its proper container after using chemicals. Meanwhile, check the storage container frequently for damage or leaks, and take prompt action to address any problems that you find.

In conclusion, a number of storage precautions must be taken to guarantee the efficacy of SDIC. This entails being aware of its chemical characteristics, selecting suitable storage containers, managing humidity and temperature, keeping it out of direct sunlight and so on. With these measures, we can ensure the stability and effectiveness of SDIC chemicals in order to maximize their effectiveness when used.

Family Villa With Pools

Chlorine Disinfection: Chlorine chemical is the most commonly used pool disinfectant, with excellent bactericidal effect. For those people who have their own swimming pools, chlorine disinfection is the most affordable option.

pH Adjustment: pH is an important factor affecting the effect of chlorine disinfection. Too high or too low pH levels will reduce the chlorine disinfecting effect. Therefore, it is necessary to use pH regulators to maintain pH in the range of 7.2-7.8.

Algae Prevention: Algae is easy to breed in swimming pools, affecting water quality and appearance. Therefore, it is essential to add algaecide regularly, which can prevent the growth of algae.

Other Chemicals: According to needs, clarifiers, flocculants and other chemicals can also be added to improve the transparency and stability of water quality.

Frequent Detection and Addition: The amount of water in the family swimming pool is relatively small, and it is easily affected by the external environment (such as rain, fallen leaves, etc.), and the water quality changes frequently. Thus, the family pool needs to test the water quality more frequently and add the appropriate chemicals in a timely manner according to the test results.

Public Swimming Pool

Strict Water Quality Standards: Public swimming pools have a large flow of people and higher requirements for water quality. In order to protect public health, the water quality of public swimming pools must meet the relevant hygiene standards.

Multiple Disinfection Methods: In addition to traditional chlorine disinfection, public swimming pools often use physical disinfection methods such as ultraviolet disinfection and ozone disinfection to improve the disinfection effect.

Regular Testing and Maintenance: Public swimming pools need regular water quality testing, and adjust the amount of chemicals according to the test results. At the same time, it is also necessary to regularly clean the filter equipment and replace the filter material to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.

Other Precautions: Public swimming pools should also pay attention to water circulation, heating, and water level control.

Spas and Hot Tubs

Special Water Quality Requirements: The water temperature of spas and hot tubs is high, and various aromatic essential oils and bath salts are often added, so the water quality requirements are more special.

Bromine Disinfection: Bromine disinfectant is more stable than chlorine disinfectant at high temperatures, so it's widely used in spas and hot tubs.

Care Agents: Spas and hot tubs need to add some special care agents, such as defoamers, water softeners, etc., to improve the touch and comfort of the water.

Different types of swimming pools have different requirements for water quality and the chemicals used vary. When selecting and using pool chemicals, the appropriate chemicals should be selected according to the specific conditions of the pool, and the dosage should be added in accordance with the instructions. Meanwhile, the water quality should also be regularly tested and the amount of chemicals added should be adjusted in time to ensure the clean and hygienic swimming pool water quality.
