What is Pool Flocculant?
Pool flocculant, also pool floc, is a chemical that can trap impurities in pool water. Because of the frequent use of the pool for a long time, there are many fine particles floating in the water that cannot be filtered through the filter. Besides, these suspended particles may deplete residual chlorine and provide breeding grounds for bacteria and algae. When a flocculant is added to the pool, it will attract these particles, causing them to aggregate into larger clumps that are heavy enough to sink to the bottom of the pool. Finally, vacuum them up. How to Use Pool Flocculant?
If you decide to use a flocculant to clean up your pool, you can follow these steps:
1. Raise the water level
In the process of vacuuming, you may lose some water, so it is best to fill the water in advance to prevent the water level from dropping below the filter.
2. Set filter to recirculate
Set your filter to recirculate, otherwise the flocculant will get into it, block everything up and destroy your filter.
3. Test and balance pH
The effect of flocculants will affect pH, so before adding floc, test your water chemistry and balance it. The pH level should be between 7.4 and 7.6, which you can adjust by pH Plus and pH Minus to ensure maximum efficiency of the disinfectant. Additionally, alkalinity should also be within a reasonable range (60-180), and slightly higher is better.
4. Dilute and add the flocculant
According to the instruction, dissolve or dilute the floc in the correct amount. Then evenly pour the floc solution into the pool.
5. Run the pool pump
Let the pump work for several hours until the flocculant is completely and evenly dispersed into the pool water. It's best to distribute the solution evenly into the pool during pouring.
6. Let pool floc sit
The flocculant needs to settle for 8 hours, so it's appropriate to do this activity overnight. During this time, you will find that a lot of particles form huge clumps and then sink to the bottom of the pool.
7. Vacuum particle clumps out of pool
After the flocculant has settled, suck the flocculated sediment away with an underwater vacuum. It should be noted that during the process of vacuuming, the movement will agitate the particles, making the water cloudy again. If this happens, take a break to let the particles settle and then start vacuuming again.
8. Test and balance water
After vacuuming particle clumps, you need to re-balance your water chemistry and adjust your pH and alkalinity. If you need to increase total alkalinity, sodium bicarbonate can be available.
